Wax that never melts

beezewax

Beezewax shouldn’t need any presentation, but unfortunately, they do. They never had a real breakthrough in Norway, and that’s a shame. Beezewax is a great pop band from Østfold with great songs, great melodies, epic guitars and lovely noise. Although their albums have been well recieved by critics, they’ve never made any commercial success, even though they have made five fantastic albums, and a few EP’s as well.

As I said, they never broke through in Norway, but thanks to hard touring outside the country, they’ve made japanese teenage girls cry, headlined Singapores biggest rock festival and in England they’ve even got their own cover-/tributeband. Beezewax’s music reminds me a bit about bands like Teenage Fanclub, Dinosaur Jr, The Lemonheads, The Posies and their norwegian fellows, Kung Fu Girls. Their second album was even produced by Ken Stringfellow from mentioned band The Posies.

My favourite and the one I would really like to recommend is Oh Tahoe. It’s so great. Maybe even the best Norwegian pop album from the 2000’s so far. The songs are great, and all the musicians are in great shape. The big difference from the earlier records is that the songs are a little bit more sophisticated (some of them even have a piano), while still containing the same kind of energy!

All in all, I believe Beezewax is definitely one of the best pop orchestras norway has ever had. I’d recommend you go straight down to your nearest record store (or itunes or whatever) and get their music now. And If you want more, you should check out guitarist and vocalist, Kenneth Ishak’s solo work!
