I want to recomend Kråkesølv, a fantastic band from a place far beyond the polar circle. Bodø to be precise. The first time I saw them was in the small Camp Indie-tent at the Øya festival in Oslo. It rained a bit that day and I wasn’t sure of what I should expect. They have been hyped a lot, and both Simen Herning (My Little Pony) and Øystein Greni (Bigbang) have endorsed them. As always, I’m a bit sceptical when it comes to hypes, but when they first started playing, I was sold. It was fantastic, and when they played the song “Skredder,” I understood that they were something special and something new.
I think it’s hard to describe their sound, but it’s something like a poppy Sonic Youth mixed with The Van Pelts and maybe a bit of Death Cab For Cutie. Layer upon layer of sound mixed with beautiful harmonies. But what’s really great with Kråkesølv is that they sing in Norwegian, and that is really brave. In the norwegian music scene, many thinks it’s lame to sing on norwegian, but that’s something Kråkesølv has proven wrong. Their lyrics are fantastic. The devious lyrics can seem a bit trivial, but at the same time all the tiny stories are about everything that’s important in life.
All in all, Kråkesølv is one of the most interesting new bands in Norway in a while. Their music is good, and their lyrics are great, and I think you’d be wise to keep an eye on them in the future.
